How models are chosen

Updated 7 November 2026

GenFashion is not tied to one AI vendor. Each try-on runs on one model from the set GenFashion has made available. Most integrations should leave the choice to GenFashion.

Choosing a model#

POST /try-on takes an optional modelId. Without it, GenFashion uses its default order, and prefers models that have already completed a try-on.

If you send a modelId that is not valid, you get BAD_MODEL or MODEL_NOT_FOUND. If no model is available, you get NO_MODEL. See Errors.

What happens in a try-on#

  1. Screening: the photos are checked before any model sees them. A refusal uses no credit.
  2. Describing the garment: the first time a product is used, a model describes it in a short phrase, such as "a red plaid flannel shirt". The phrase is kept with the product and returned as garmentPhrase.
  3. Creating the image: a model places the garment on the shopper. This usually takes 45 to 60 seconds.

The model is asked to keep the shopper's face, hair, body shape, skin tone and pose, to make the garment fit realistically, and to keep the background unless you chose another. These are instructions and not guarantees, so check results before relying on them in your store.

If a model fails#

A try-on is not retried on another model automatically. It ends as FAILED, and you are not charged. Start a new try-on to try again.

Quality#

There is no automatic quality score on results. For how photos are checked before a try-on, see Photo quality.
